Our Beautiful Red Squirrel Statue

Clare Bigger Squirrel Sculptures

Clare Bigger’s squirrel sculptures have become a distinctive symbol of our properties in Little Langdale, now proudly serving as the logo for both Lowfield House and Wetherlam View.

Originally created as an homage to the iconic red squirrel and its presence in the valley, the sculptures also pay tribute to Little Langdale’s rich copper mining heritage. While the initial idea was to craft the squirrels from copper, the material proved too soft for the intricate design. Instead, stainless steel was chosen for its strength and durability, then heat-burnished to achieve a beautiful copper-toned finish, a nod to the valley’s historic roots.

These sculptures now stand as a unique artistic expression of nature, history, and craftsmanship, seamlessly linking our properties to the landscape and legacy of Little Langdale.
